The best system is the one that fits your home, your sources and how you actually live. If you're still working out what multi-room audio actually is, it's simpler than it sounds. There are just two ideas. A source is where your music comes from: Spotify, the radio, your turntable, the TV. A zone is where you want it to play: the kitchen, your bedroom, the garden, or the whole house at once. A proper multi-room system lets you send any source to any zone. That's what makes it different from a Bluetooth speaker, which only plays one thing, in one place, from one phone. With a real system, anyone in the house can play anything, anywhere, and the speakers are tucked discreetly into the rooms rather than sitting on the shelves.

It's the first thing people ask, so let's get straight to it. Both are genuinely excellent when they're done properly. What matters is which one suits your home.
If you're building or renovating, this is usually the one to go for. Cabling runs from a central multi-zone amplifier to speakers in every room: the gold standard for sound quality, reliability and scale, with nothing for the Wi-Fi to drop, and the cleanest fit with a wider smart home.
Best while walls are open and you want the highest quality across a lot of rooms.
If your home's already finished, this is almost always the better route. The speakers connect over your network (Sonos is the name you'll know) so there's no tearing up rooms, it's quicker, and it's far less disruptive to live through.
It leans on your network, so we'll always make sure your Wi-Fi is up to it first.
We'll often wire the key rooms and the new-build areas, then retrofit wireless into the spaces where cabling would mean lifting a finished floor. We design around your home, not around a rule about which is better, and we'll tell you plainly which makes sense where.
A system is only ever as good as its speakers and, just as importantly, where they go. This is where it really pays to have us rather than a box off a shelf. Our designers are THX-trained, the same standard the cinema industry uses for calibrated sound, so we don't just mount a speaker where it'll fit. We work out where it needs to sit for even, room-filling sound, how many a space actually needs, and how to set them so every corner sounds right.
Why THX matters for you: it's a recognised benchmark for getting sound right in a room, covering levels, coverage and placement to a defined standard. It's the difference between speakers that are simply present and a room that genuinely sounds good wherever you're standing.
As for what the speakers look like, that's entirely your call. Three broad choices:
The popular choice for most people. Set flush, painted to match, even sound with almost nothing to see. Lithe Audio's all-in-one wireless ceiling speakers are a lovely clean retrofit, with an IP-rated one for bathrooms too.
If you don't want to see a single thing, these are plastered straight into the wall or ceiling, painted over, and disappear completely. The sound comes right through the surface. Your room looks like there's no audio at all, until you press play.

And if a room really calls for it, a media room or a snug, we can bring a multi-room soundbar or a proper stereo setup into the system as its own zone, rather than leaving it stranded on its own.

It's the market leader in wireless for good reason: it connects over your network, works with every streaming service you already use, and grows from one speaker to the whole house. Begin with the kitchen, add the rest whenever you like.
If your home's finished and you want the easiest, most affordable way in, these are brilliant. The amplifier and Wi-Fi are built right into each ceiling speaker, so there's no separate amp and no cabling between them, and they often go in inside an hour each.
