It grew from a handful of houses into the iron and steel powerhouse the Victorians called the Infant Hercules, the place whose steel built the Sydney Harbour Bridge and whose Transporter Bridge has stood over the Tees as our icon since 1911. From Captain Cook's beginnings in Marton to the engineering and digital talent at Teesside University today, our town has always made things work.
